Avoid The Golden Horde

The Golden Horde refers to the mass exodus of the unprepared from the cities to the suburbs and rural areas after a disaster has ocurred.  They come looking for food, water and shelter whenever infrastructure has been decimated.

If the power grid goes down for more than a few days, cities will become rapidly unlivable.  Without power; water and food distribution will cease, law and order will start to fail and crime, arson and full scale looting will begin.

Making people cold, wet or hungry for any length of time will peel away society’s civilized qualities and revert people back to an animal state where survival at any cost becomes the norm.  You must make sure you are not in the path of the golden horde, but if you are; you must avoid detection, or if detected be prepared to defend yourself.

As a prepper, you do not want to be a predator but you also do not want to be the prey.  In a survival situation consider all strangers as dangerous (stranger danger) and follow your pre-existing survival plan with modifications as needed.

  1. You are much nicer than I am. I simply call them human predators. I’ve been through a few hurricanes in my day working for a police department and looters in the aftermath are a problem. They know that some people have evacuated and will look for homes and businesses to enter since most emergency services workers are more concerned are busy with rescue operations once the all clear is given.

I am following this blog and have found a lot of common sense information here about survival. Things happen and it doesn’t take a zombie apocalypse to put you in survival mode, any disaster can do it. Think Katrina.
