From time to time I like to pose a question to spark commentary and debate. For those of you who prepare for disaster scenarios; in your opinion what do you feel will be the next survival/disaster scenario you may have to face. I look forward to your responses.

On the immediate forefront of possible senerios I believe it will be two fold…1. Ethnic unrest leading to riots will be the first. This will be caused by a further downturn in the economic stage. 2. Food shortages will be next. Most stores only have a 3 day supply of food for a general area of the population within their own districts. Riots will stop the flow of these supplies into the cities.
I feel that as a country we are at a virtual tipping point. I suspect that as the economy worsens and unemployment numbers rise there will be panic and mass riots. Those who are unprepared or who are unable to properly defend themselves will not fare well in that environment.

Interesting question…hope many reader will take the time to answer.
Thank you. I am looking forward to seeing the responses that come in as I believe it is a topic worthy of discussion.
I think I like 1st minstrel answer. I think civil disturbance is highly likely. I see martial law coming. If the government is here “to help us” it’s time to head for the hills, if you have any to head to. I stock up for natural disasters, with food, water and medical supplies. Water is important to stock up on. Just ask the people of Florida or New Orleans. Being able to grow your own food is very important with the drought going on. There will be more people wanting the decreased food stock. Take a look at the labels on your food and you will see that corn or syrup is in most things. That will drive the food prices sky high. Also, the ethanol in gasoline. I heard somebody says that ethanol was from seed corn that we don’t eat anyway. I think that person has never been poor or hungry. Everyone is poo-pooing the coming hard times. Excuse me, the hard time are already here. Take care of your family because the government surely will not.
Excellent analysis 1wanderingtruthseeker. Every time I look at my food and water preps even though I have enough to last for awhile; I never seem to think it’s really enough.
Seeker I am with you all the way, there is a lot of chatter of obama calling for martial law if he thinks he will not be reelected. He has been pitting the haves and the have not’s against each other 4 the last 4 years. I have been harping on my wife about stocking up on food, which to her means going to the store and buying 5 cans of corn and 2 cans of green beans. People who have been affected by natural disasters know the feeling of no electricity, food ,water and gas and of course the long lines and hoarding the few resources we have. If you haven’t heard about the fema concentration camps and all the bullets our government is stock piling, just google it. This is not the United States we grew up in and if this administration has it’s way….all our freedoms we know will be just memories
And it’s all coming so fast. If people would just look around they would see it too.
First of all, it’s not if -it’s when. And I think it will be a total and complete banking collapse -and it will be global. Then big time civil unrest which could lead to Marshall law and coercive govt takeover and clamp down of citizens. Hello tyranny, goodbye freedom.
Ann Barnhardt, http://barnhardt.biz/ lays it out beautifully in a couple recent posts. Just scroll down to these titles:

Excellent points paualready. Sounds like you have done some thorough research. Glad you are an active participant on this blog 🙂
BTW, pau in Hawaiian slang means finished. Hence my wordpress handle pau already . . .;o)
Thanks. I will definitely add that to my vocabulary. I was wondering so I’m glad you answered before I even asked lol 🙂
I’m thinking economic unrest, the entitlement generation is not going to take not having their god given right to anything consumable taken away.
Makes me wonder how we have slid so far away from a generation of self reliance and achievement to a generation of entitlement.
This topic always raises a debate in my house. I’m on your side: be prepared – but my better half can’t fathom an uncivilized society rising from the ashes of economic crisis and food shortages (coupled with natural disaster). So, I’m preparing for the worst – but hoping for the best. However, if my stores get too high – and I’m forced to leave a property not yet paid in full – or can’t pay taxes and am forced to leave- how do I transport enough supplies and still be mobile. Obviously if I was hauling around a storage trailer or something, I’d be a prime target for bandits … but I won’t go on – I have 1,000,000 scenarios in my head that play out regularly – and I don’t have alot of confidence in my abilities.
and the answer to your question – on the prairies – the most likely disaster scenario I feel I would face is tornado, or fire from lightning.
Hi Tina. Always great to hear from you. For myself I suspect in a disaster scenario such as civil unrest, rioting, etc I have already made the decision to stay put in my home rather than bug out. So that eliminates at least for me the how do I move supplies around if I leave scenario. Make your home as formidable as possible and have a plan of action as to what you would do in this scenario or that scenario. Why do you feel that you do not have confidence in your abilities Tina if you don’t mind me asking?
I believe the number one thing we need to prepare for are the typical (hurricane, tornado, flood, and fire) disasters. And then prepare ourselves for the fall-out for those events. Businesses with “just-int-time” logistics will be strained, social services will be strained or non-existent due to over-demand, and utilities will be slow to be restored if at all possible. The climate that this creates is one of have’s and have not’s. People get their underwear in a bind if their cashier at Starbucks messes up their order. Now imagine people that have not showered, or living in hot (or cold) homes or shelters, with little sleep. Tensions will rise. This isn’t a “shoot them all and let God sort them out” time. Sure if people start ransacking your home in droves, give em all dirt naps. But more realistically, the situation is going to prepare for is simple…dealing with people.
Sure, you’ve got a bug-in location…but it’s burnt, blown-away, or underwater or all of the above. So you’ve got a bug-out location. You go gotta get their first, and I’m sure that is gonna mean that you are gonna make some form of human contact along the way. You’re gonna have to deal with those people. Maybe you weren’t totally prepared and all you have is your 72 hour kit and the aforementioned bug-in location is untenable. So you stay in a jam-packed Red Cross shelter. You’re gonna have to deal with the people sleeping/crying/talking/snoring/farting/tap dancing in the cot next to you. They aren’t gonna go away just because you want them to. They have been affected by the disaster of the day just like you were.
The take away from all of this? Learn to deal with people. All sorts of people. Clean, dirty, black, white, purple, English speaking, and non-English speaking. Interpersonal communications skills and problem-solving skills will not only prepare you have the acute effects of a disaster but also for the recovery phase of a disaster.
I see you have given this considerable thought ohioprepper. You bring up many valid points worthy of consideration. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.
