Zombies; the possibilities are just endless.  A fictional undead creature popularized in television shows and books which begs the question, if zombies ever became reality what essential gear would you need to fight them?  Here’s a good list of items to get you started.

  • Firearms – Recommendations would be an AR-15 chambered in .223, a 12 gauge pump action shotgun using 00 buckshot, and a semi automatic pistol chambered in either 9mm, or 45ACP.  Head shots only; as body shots will do nothing to impede a zombies forward motion.
  • Ammunition – As much as possible.  Let’s face it your firearm becomes nothing more than a club without ammunition.
  • Mags – Fully loaded and ready to go.
  • Molle Gear – After all you need a way to carry all of those mags, ammo and other related gear.
  • Chopping Tools – Hatchets and pummel pipes work well.
  • Cutting Tools – Machettes and fixed blade knives will get the job done.
  • Flashlights and Batteries – Zombies like to roam at night and after all you need to see where you are going from time to time.
  • Bolt Cutters – Sometimes nothing else will do.  Serves as both a useful tool and a weapon.
  • First Aid Kit – Although if you’re bitten it’s already too late.
  • Steel toed boots/thick gloves/protective clothing – Make those zombies work for that bite while you are fighting them off.

Do deep underground military bases exist?  The answer to this question is yes they do.  Speculation is rampant on what goes on in these facilities and the following are some of the theories that have been put forth.

  • Strategically placed to be used for detecting and intercepting weapons launched by our enemies.
  • Communications hubs to be used for intelligence gathering.
  • Long term storage facilities for food, water, medicine, seeds, fuel, weapons, etc.
  • Safe, secure, impenetrable areas for dignitaries and other officials should the world come to an end and civilization needs to start over.  Essentially massive survival bunkers for those with the right connections.
  • Facilities which are used for alien experimentation or for testing alien technologies.
  • Testing and development areas for new weapons, experimental aircraft, etc.
  • Interconnected with many other underground facilities of a similar nature to provide undetected movement of personnel and equipment by underground vehicles, trains, etc., for whatever purposes deemed neccessary.
  • Storage area for genetic samples of all life forms.
  • Medical containment and testing facility for bio-medical and bio-chemical agents.

So what do you think?  Do deep underground military bases exist and are there any other activities which might be going on there?  Unofficially I hear they host pizza parties every other Friday night for those with the proper credentials 🙂

What’s next on my prepper purchase list you ask?  After reviewing my survival and preparedness gear, equipment and supplies the next item I plan on getting is the EcoZoom Versa Rocket Stove.  For those who are unfamiliar with a rocket stove they are basically simple cooking stoves which can be used when camping or when there is a power outage.  They can either be homemade or purchased from reputable manufacturers; and they are efficient and relativley easy to operate.  I’ve already asked my wife for this item for Christmas this year 🙂

Here’s the product description.  EcoZoom’s Versa Stove can burn wood, charcoal, or dried biomass and is their most versatile cook stove. The Versa is a great option for those wanting cook fuel options while still providing the same EcoZoom durability. The Versa is there most popular emergency preparedness model in the United States and is also great for camping. The Zoom Versa features an abrasion resistant and durable ceramic combustion chamber with a 10 cm in diameter vertical section that forces the gases to mix with the flame, decreasing harmful emissions and adds a refractory metal liner to the inside of the combustion chamber that protects the ceramic insulation, increases the life of your stove, and improves combustion efficiency. This stove features there new hinged combustion chamber doors enabling for an effortless conversion from wood to charcoal fuels. Both the main combustion chamber door and the damper door (bottom door) have reinforced metal frames and have hinges that serve to securely close the doors and regulate airflow. The Zoom Versa also has a durable, reformulated 6-pronged cast iron stovetop that improves heat transfer for all pots including round bottom pots and woks.

I can’t wait to try this out when I receive one for Christmas.  Just a gentle reminder and hint to my wife 🙂

Probably one of the most overlooked items of prepper gear is what to wear on your head.  Military helmets will get you strange looks and they are also much too heavy.  Baseball caps are a consideration but they have some drawbacks as well.  While they are socially acceptable the front bill of the hat can interfere with rifle optics and they do nothing to protect the back of the neck from the sun or the rain.  Yes I know you can wear them backwards but who wants to constantly be flipping their hat back and forth.  A common and popular solution is the Boonie hat.  They are easily foldable to avoid interference with rifle optics, offer a degree of sun and rain protection for the back of your neck,  and are comfortable to wear.  If you haven’t thought about head gear from a survival/preparedness aspect, now is the time to do so.

If a long-term disaster scenario strikes and society crumbles away; preppers may find themselves having to patrol their property on a regular basis to deal with criminals, thugs, and looters who will try and take advantage of the chaotic situation.  So depending on what type of molle load bearing vest, warbelt, etc., you choose to carry; the prepper on short-term immediate property patrol should consider carrying the following items.

  • Combat effective rifle along with three spare magazines
  • Handgun along with three spare magazines
  • Portable First Aid Kit
  • Binoculars if your rifle does not have high powered optics
  • Flashlight seperate from your mounted weapons light
  • Replacement Batteries
  • A small amount of food
  • A days supply of water
  • Fixed Blade Knife
  • Communications Devices such as a cell phone and a two way radio

If society collapses, or the SHTF, or TEOTWAWKI, (The end of the world as we know it) scenarios occur having the following item available and ready to go is essential.  The piece of gear I’m talking about is a load bearing vest.  Most services that people depend upon will be gone, during a serious disaster, and you will be responsible for your own self defense and security.  Police and law enforcement will be non existant and criminals, thugs, and looters will be everywhere waiting for an opportunity to strike.

A load bearing vest allows you to have defensive and survival gear on you at all times as you will be patrolling, gathering supplies, disposing of trash, investigating disturbances, etc.  Essentially you will be going into nothing short of a potential war zone so configure your load bearing vest to be flexible and to be mission specific.

Using molle attachment points and molle gear will making swapping equipment as needed a fairly easy task.  Some vests come with pre installed pouches while others have no pouches at all; and you add them as needed.  I prefer starting with a vest with no pouches as pictured at the bottom of this post and then adding pouches until I’m satisfied with the functionality.  At that point I keep it conveniently located until it is ever needed.  Of course hopefully it will never be needed.

Some of the items on your load bearing vest in their respective pouches/holsters should include lots of rifle magazines, spare ammunition, handgun, handgun magazines, flashlight, spare batteries; fixed blade knife and first aid kit.  You can add or subtract items as the situation warrants.  Remember the items you select should be mission specific.  So set up your vest now; size it properly for your dimensions and try it on once a month to make sure it fits properly and that everything it carries is where it needs to be.  If a serious societal ending disaster strikes; you’ll be ready to defend yourself and your family.

I’m on my soapbox this morning regarding political correctness.  It is just so wrong in so many ways.  Look, if you have something to say just say it, don’t sugar coat it because someones feelings might get a little ruffled.  We need to stop pandering to those who can’t bear to hear the truth.

It’s ridiculous to think we need to protect everyone’s sensative ears from every little word that is uttered.  If you’re offended by free speech then you need to grow a backbone and toughen up.  I for one will say what I want to say and if you don’t like it then don’t listen.  We are turning into a nation of wimps who have no character.  Speak your mind and let the chips fall where they may.

A criminal is a criminal, they are not behaviorally challenged.  Failure is failure, it is not deferred success.  An illegal alien is an illegal alien, they are not undocumented workers.  Insane people are insane, they are not selectively perceptive.  A junkie is a junkie, they are not a substance abuse victim.  A bum is a bum, they are not a displaced homeowner.

As for me political correctness is nothing more than a failed attempt to eliminate stigma from certain social and political scenarios.  Maybe if more social stigma was applied instead of less, than people would stop behaving in anti social, immoral ways.  Remember personal responsibility is personal responsibility regardless of what the politically correct crowd would have you think.
