The Thin Veneer of Civilization

What is one of the most dangerous scenarios that can occur in a SHTF/survival situation?  The answer is other people.  Anytime other people are cold, wet, hungry, scared, in panic mode and unprepared to the point that it is a life or death situation for them; the thin veneer of civilization will fade away and they will resort to their base animal instincts to try and take what you have by any means necessary; without regard to your safety or your life.  You must be adequately prepared to prevent that from happening.

Having a good supply of food, water, medicine, clothing, fuel, etc., is not enough.  You must have the means, determination, weapons, ammo, training, and skills, to keep what you have set aside for your families survival; away from those who did not prepare and will try and take your supplies.  Need proof, just look at what happened during the LA riots or Hurricane Katrina.  Need I say more!

You are your own first line of self defense when it comes to surviving during a disaster scenario. You cannot delegate that responsibility to others.  Your survival is entirely up to you.  You must make the descision whether to do everything you can to defend your life; or to give up and allow your life to be taken by some thug or looter.  I for one choose life; after all my life is more important than any criminals, anytime.

You can see all 5 of my post apocalyptic fiction books, 2 of my zombie fiction books and 1 of my horror fiction books on the left side of my blog page.  Go ahead; take a chance and purchase one or more over at  They are really quite interesting to read if I do say so myself and they also make excellent gifts 🙂
