If you are currently going through the stages where you’re internally debating with yourself whether or not to legally carry a firearm, think about the following.  How would it make you feel if a criminal had total control; the power of life and death over you and your family with only the criminal having any say in whether you or your family lived or died.   Without having a firearm and a working knowledge of using that firearm to defend yourself and your family you would have absolutely no input into that scenario.  It is your right and your responsibility to protect yourself and your family.  Never forget that.  So get that permit, get some training and practice those skills.

Profiling can save your life.  Human beings as a survival mechanism constantly profile as a method to avoid danger and everyone does it to one extent or another.  As an example that was told to me follows; it will clearly illustrate my point.  You are in the lobby of a six floor apartment building late at night waiting for an elevator. There are two elevators and as you push the button waiting for an elevator to arrive you are looking forward to visiting your friend who lives on the fifth floor.  In the lobby both elevator doors open at the same time.  In one elevator there are 6 old ladies; in the other elevator there are 6 men all in their 20’s dressed in gang colors.  Which elevator are you going to get into?  Anyone with common sense will get into the elevator with the 6 old ladies.

Congratulations you profiler you; you have just profiled and in doing so you have probably saved yourself from being raped, robbed or murdered. Profiling is how human beings look to avoid danger and stay safe.  We all have gut instincts for a reason; so learn to use them wisely and stay safe.

An economic decline is just one disaster that preppers seek to prepare for. When the economy falters, unemployment and poverty can run rampant and crime will escalate.  Desperate people will be forced to do desperate things in order to survive.  As the prices of necessary commodities rise, the buying power of the dollar shrinks.  As central banks the world over print more currency, and introduce it into the economy, the purchasing value of that currency goes down.  As the national debt increases the dollars value decreases.

Additional reasons for economic decline include debased currency, inflation, declining credit rating, failed stimulus plan, unwieldy entitlement programs, unions and lobbyists, pork barrel projects, government subsidies, over-regulation, illegal immigration, the complexity of derivatives, and escalating debt which results in higher taxation and a lower standard of living.

The collapse of social order occurs when the psychological barrier that keeps people in check collapses when conditions warrant.  Once people realize that 911 can’t handle all of the calls, or that police are unwilling or unable to respond during a disaster scenario; the breakdown of law and order occurs.  Examples of the collapse of social order include the L.A. Riots after the Rodney King verdict was announced, and the looting and violence following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

Three primary factors that can contribute to the decimation of social order are lack of food, lack of water, and lack of money.  The collapse of social order is extremely dangerous because it is a frame of mind; and when that frame of mind is altered or removed due to a panic/disaster situation, law and order can cease to exist.

Last night my heavy duty steel shelving units complete with 3 months worth of food and water per person came crashing down as the legs buckled under the extreme weight.  I rebuilt a heavier duty shelving system and restocked everything which took many hours to do.  Luckily none of the food and water supplies burst upon impact with the concrete floor. I share this with my readers so you can learn from my experience. Make sure your shelves, no matter how heavy duty you think they are, really can support all the weight you are looking for them to support.

Yes, I’ve finally come to realize, the hard way, that as I am getting older my mind still wants to do things that my body isn’t willing to follow.  Case in point was while doing some weight training I tore a muscle pretty badly in my right arm causing pain to radiate up and down my right arm. The pain extends from the thumb on my right hand all the way up to my neck.  Yes I know in a few weeks I’ll be fine; but it made me realize that carrying a bug out bag or handling a firearm have now been made increasingly more difficult, and painful, at least for a few weeks.  Lesson learned here is when it comes to survival and preparedness, it is essential to not push your body beyond what it is realistically capable of doing, regardless of how young you feel inside.
