No matter how many guns, and ancillary related products you have; you cannot individually use all of your firearms in a defensive, apocalyptic survival scenario at the same time.  Therefore I find it beneficial to have pre-selected 1 main rifle, 1 main handgun, and 1 main 12 gauge shotgun for use depending on the specific scenario should the post apocalyptic world become a reality.

When making your weapons selections you want to make sure they are dependable, reliable, robust, and that you are proficient with their use.  You may have to become your own gunsmith so having spare parts available and being able to install them are also important considerations.

There is no one right weapons selection for everyone; and everyone has their personal likes and dislikes when it comes to the merits of certain firearms, so it is up to you to do your research when it comes to buying your weapons and obtaining proper training.  If a post apocalyptic world does arrive; your survival may well depend on the weapons and training choices you have made.

Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed to the fullest.  You should live the way you want, work at something you enjoy doing, reside where you want and get as much satisfaction from life as possible.  Along with that however, it is also prudent to be prepared for situations in life where things are contra to your best interests.  Disasters such as social unrest, war, famine, societal collapse, escalations in violent crime, etc., are just some of the things that in this day and age are of concern to many.  So, along with enjoying the good times, it is also important to prepare for the bad times.

The following are the things I consider important for preparing for your own survival.

  • There is no such thing as having too much canned food or water set aside.  If disaster strikes, grocery stores may not be available to supplement your needs.  You must maintain a minimum of 3 months worth of food and water per person.  Don’t forget to set the same amount aside for each of your pets.
  • Yes, yes, yes you must have a sufficient amount of guns and ammunition and be well versed in their use.  You may have sufficient quantities of emergency supplies, but if others try and forcibly take them, you must be able to hold onto what you have.
  • People can and will panic during disasters so avoid large crowds and any areas subject to martial law and or rioting.
  • Use common sense and good judgement when deciding whom to trust.
  • Always keep  small amounts of cash on hand.  A disaster may render ATM’s and credit card systems useless.  If so, cash or barter may be the only ways to immediately conduct business.
  • Take responsibility for your own survival.  Ability without character is useless.  Remain moral and ethical during times of crisis.

If you want to be a survivor and persevere during harsh economic, social, and political times; or during civil unrest, or any other type of SHTF situation, it is imperative to pay attention to the following rules.

  • You need to be aware of who and what is around you at all times; this is referred to as situational awareness.
  • Trust your gut instincts.  If something feels wrong or seems dangerous then it usually is wrong or dangerous.
  • Actions speak louder than words.  Just because someone says they will do something does not mean they will follow through.  Make sure if someone commits to doing something that they actually do it.
  • Have confidence in yourself and your abilities.  If you act vulnerable, insecure and weak then you can expect to be treated that way.
  • Be bold, dynamic, and conduct your business with authority.
  • Maintain a positive mental attitude.  Positive attitudes attract positive results.  Negative attitudes attract negative results.
  • Make yourself a hard target.  It is the easy targets who are attacked.
  • Do not think or act like a victim and avoid having an entitlement mentality.
  • Not everyone can be trusted.  Be careful whom you trust.
  • Know your surroundings.
  • Know the best strike points to incapacitate an attacker; and if attacked do whatever it takes to win.
  • Be proficient with your defensive weapons.
  • If you have to fight back; fight back hard.

Let’s face it, apocalyptic scenarios, zombies, etc., are all the rage these days.  A benefit of this is it provides an opening to discuss what you would do if confronted with such scenarios. Whatever apocalyptic scenario life throws your way, the main thing to remember is that you must survive.  In order to survive it is important to be aware of the following.

  • While fear can be a normal response, one must come to terms with that fear in order to survive.
  • In a defensive capacity you must be able to out-think and out-fight your opponent.
  • Choose your survival weapons wisely and be proficient with their use.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings no matter how innocent they may look.
  • Know the difference between cover and concealment.  IE:  cover may hide you and will stop a bullet; concealment may hide you but will not stop a bullet.
  • Always have a backup plan and make sure your plans are adaptable to changing circumstances.
  • Act quickly and decisively but don’t overreact or act too soon.
  • There is no such thing as a fair fight or battle.  If your life is on the line you must win at any cost.  Make sure the unfair advantage is in your favor.
