I’ve been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to use tactical shotguns from Mossberg, Remington, Winchester, CZ, Weatherby, Benelli, H&R, etc. With the myriad of shotgun choices available today; here are my reasons for preferring the Mossberg 590A1 12 gauge pump action shotgun to all others.
- The shell tube holds 8 + 1 rounds of 2 3/4″ 00 buckshot.
- It’s a combat ready shotgun, solidly built with a heavy, firm feel.
- It is smooth operating and has a good fit and durable finish.
- In many range session uses; I have never experienced any malfunctions such as a double feed or failure to eject.
- Shotgun was designed to function in extreme environments and can take some knocking about.
- Can easily accomodate a wide range of accessories such as side saddles, heat shields, flashlight holders, breacher barrels, etc.
- Comes standard with a good quality adjustable ghost ring rear sight and a fiber optic front sight.
- The heavy weight of the shotgun helps with recoil control.
- Can be used with a 1 point, 2 point or 3 point sling.
- Trigger group and safety are metal instead of plastic and the safety is well positioned on the top of the weapon,
- The barrel finish is parkerized.
- Weight empty is 7.5 pounds, barrel length is 20″ and overall length is 41″
