Time and time again we witness natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina where people are either unable or unwilling to take care of themselves.  Being self reliant and self sufficient is essential during a disaster scenario as potential help may be either unable or unwilling to assist.  Do not rely on others for your own life saving disaster strategies.  It’s nice to think that help will always be available but for practical purposes; that may not be the case.

Survival and preparedness skills for any situation are important and essential for everyone to learn. You must be ready, willing, and able to do what is necessary to survive when a disaster scenario strikes.  Pay attention to warning signs and to your own gut feelings and observations.  If something seems wrong or dangerous then there is a good chance that it is wrong or dangerous.  The right tools, the right skills, and the right weapons for defensive purposes along with the right mental outlook can make all the difference between surviving or not surviving.  Personally given the choice I choose survival.

When it comes to the subject of favorite handguns for personal defense everybody has their own personal likes, dislikes, and opinions.  My selection was based on years and years of trying different makes and models, factoring in reliability, durability, accuracy, mechanical issues if there were any, as well as fit, feel, and function.  Of course appearance has to factor in somewhat as well.  So what is my favorite personal defense handgun?  It would have to be the full size Smith & Wesson M&P 45 in two tone finish.

Nature can be a savage beast when it unleashes its fury in a variety of storm based ways.  When talking about tornado’s it’s important to remember that a tornado on the top end of the wind scale can easily tear houses from foundations, carry away automobiles, damage steel reinforced concrete structures, and throw debris around over vast distances.

When a weather report issues a tornado warning for your area do not ignore it.  If you hear a rumbling that sounds like a freight train the tornado is heading your way.  Seek safe shelter immediately such as in your basement or in a specially designed tornado shelter if your home has one.  Get your entire family to safety and don’t forget about your pets.

Make sure everything you need is handy for you to grab at a moments notice such as a fully charged cell phone, charger, car keys, flashlight, etc.  Also take the time beforehand to make sure your homeowners insurance policy actually covers whatever storm damage you may incur.  You will also want to keep all of your important papers together in a secure place as you will need them after the tornado subsides.

Depending on where you live help may or may not arrive in a timely manner and looting may or may not be a problem.  With that said you may need to be self sufficient for a period of time and also provide your own security measures against potential looters.  So if your home or dwelling resides in an area that is prone to severe storms and other natural disasters, take precautions now.

If anyone tells you that you have to take your American flag down then tell them to “shove it.  This flag will remain flying.”  This political correctness nonsense has got to stop.
