Everyday survival awareness is something that everyone should pay particular attention to as they go about their daily routines.  Your life can be altered or ended tragically when errors you make combined with proximity to a thug result in severe personal consequences.  You do lock your doors in your car when your driving right; if not do it now.  You do lock your doors and windows when you leave the house or go to sleep; if not do it now.  You do avoid going to ATM’s alone at night in less than ideal areas; if you don’t then start avoiding those ATM’s today.

Be aware of your surroundings.  I can’t stress this enough.  Take precautions before you become a crime statistic; not afterwards.  Criminals do not share your moral values, they are not your friends or your neighbors and will see you only as an obstacle to getting what they want.  If you get that gut feeling that something is wrong pay attention to it; as your initial gut reactions are usually correct.

Always carry a cell phone and keep it fully charged.  If you have your pistol permit start carrying your pistol concealed after thoroughly training and familiarizing yourself with every aspect of its operation.  A gun locked in a safe at home does you no good if you are attacked and need it.  For those who do not have a pistol permit carry pepper spray or a quality folding knife with you at all times.

Proper precautions can help you avoid and if necessary deal with potential life altering or ending situations.  Don’t become a victim.

The following are ten important things to know when it comes to keeping yourself safe.

  1. Be situationally aware of who and what is around you.
  2. Pay attention to your gut instincts.  If something feels wrong or unsafe than it probably is wrong or unsafe.
  3. Be careful whom you trust.  Not everyone or everything is always as it appears to be.
  4. Keep your cell phone fully charged and with you.
  5. Be proficient with your self defense firearms.  They can save your life someday.
  6. Do not have a victim’s mentality or an entitlement mentality.  Instead be confident and positive about yourself and your abilities.
  7. Be prepared for the most likely scenarios which you might face and plan accordingly.
  8. Do not walk or drive in dangerous areas alone or at night.
  9. Do not let strangers latch onto you.
  10. Develop a tactical, self defense mindset.  You are your own first line of self defense.

So you’ve looked outside and zombies are everywhere.  Here are ten ways to survive the zombie apocalypse if you ever find yourself in that scenario.

  1. Stay quiet.  Zombies are attracted to noise.  Even if you want to scream, or shout or yell, don’t do it.
  2. Do not travel alone or at night especially if you are on foot.
  3. Have a safe, secure, well fortified location to live.
  4. Have plenty of guns, ammo, clubs, knives, tomahawks and other sharp weapons just in case you have to dispatch a zombie or two from time to time.  Remember it takes damage to the head and brain to kill them.
  5. Have food, water, medical supplies and other essential survival gear stocked up.
  6. Stay in shape physically, mentally and emotionally.
  7. Be careful whom you trust.  People aren’t always what they appear to be.
  8. Have a primary, secondary and tertiary survival plan.
  9. Observe proper light and noise discipline.
  10. It will be easier to survive if you are with a group of people that you trust; and can be relied upon when the SHTF.

Martial law can be defined as the military taking control of a city, state or country and running it at their discretion.  The military would impose control on a civilian population when law and order cannot be maintained by the civil authorities.  Martial law scenarios would likely involve a restriction, erosion, or suspension of your Constitutional rights by government decree.

In order to survive martial law the following things should be considered.  You will need to prepare beforehand by becoming as self reliant as possible; avoid traveling to any and all areas under martial law, do not draw attention to yourself or your family during times of martial law, stay informed, and never accept the governments word at face value.  Remember your survival trumps obeying dictates.

A constant, armed military presence  and routine patrols by the military will be part of martial law along with curfews and vehicle checkpoints.  There will be people who masquerade as law enforcement to lure people into traps and attack them.  Do not fall for this.  You need to be extremely careful who you follow and whom you trust.

One of my readers, kindly asked me if I could write a specific article on how women can be prepared for disaster scenarios.  After giving the matter much thought, the following would be some recommendations that I can suggest.

  • Make sure you have the proper mindset which means whatever happens you must firmly believe that you will survive no matter what disaster confronts you.
  • Control your fears.  This is essential.
  • Practice regularly with whatever weapons you plan on using for self defensive.   Be thoroughly familiar with how your weapons function and practice frequently.  Firearms drills to practice should include safely loading, unloading, clearing malfunctions, acquiring your target and basic weapons maintenance.
  • Rape will be an ever present threat when the SHTF so make sure you know some basic fighting techniques and know which specific strike points on the human body will instantly incapacitate an attacker.  There are many strike points on an attackers body which can accomplish this.
  • Be selective and careful whom you trust.  If you get a feeling that a person is untrustworthy or a danger to you, do not dismiss that feeling but instead pay attention to it and distance yourself accordingly.
  • Stock up on survival basics which means have at least a 3 month supply of food, water, medicine and make sure you have sufficient guns, ammo and gun related gear as well as shelter options available to you.  Don’t forget feminine products including menstrual pads and birth control.
  • Have an attitude of confidence and project it openly.  Make yourself a hard target so anyone considering doing you harm will think twice about doing so.  Most criminals would rather try and take $20.00 from someone who won’t resist then take a $100.00 from someone who will offer strong resistance.
  • Be mentally and physically fit to as much a degree as possible.
  • Have a prepacked bug out bag available with your survival essentials and make sure you can carry it for a considerable distance.  The bag will be useless if you can only carry it to the end of the driveway and then need to stop.
  • Have some reference manuals which contain quick access to short and long term survival methods available to you.
  • Know the difference between cover and concealment.  Cover allows you to hide and will stop a bullet where as concealment will allow you to hide but will not stop a bullet.
  • Know when to attack and when not to.
  • If you have to leave the area stay off the main roads.  You may travel parellel to them from areas which are away from prying eyes but stay off of the main roads.
  • Whenever possible it is better to stay put in a fortifed location such as a properly hardened home then to leave and set out on foot.
