Violent criminals seek out those who appear weak, defenseless, and who are not paying attention to what is going on around them.  In order to avoid violent attacks or to survive them if you are involved in one, the following things should be strongly considered.

  • Walk with confidence and project confidence.  Give the impression that you would be a hard target.
  • Avoid dangerous places and dangerous neighborhoods.
  • Be situationally aware of what is going on around you.
  • Where legal, carry a defensive weapon and be proficient in its use.
  • Keep your cell phone fully charged and available.
  • Don’t take needless risks such as jogging alone through the woods or walking through alleys as a shortcut to your destination.
  • Use your environment as a tool such as using store windows to see if you are being followed.  If you suspect danger get out of there and seek assistance immediately.
  • Don’t let politeness make you a target.  If someone encroaches on your territory or you get a bad vibe tell them to get back or back off.
  • Take responsibility for your own safety.
  • If you are attacked fight to win.  Know the strike points on the human body that will quickly incapacitate an attacker.

While it is important to be prepared for things that might occur, it is equally important to not obsess over these things.  Keep things in perspective; if you can live your life prepared but also happy, healthy, and with peace of mind then you are way ahead of most folks.

Your health is of the utmost importance.  Without good health, everything else is secondary.  Work on doing all you can to be healthy, happy, develop peace of mind, and have a positive outlook on life.  Everything else will then fall into place and you will be better prepared to handle a man-made or natural disaster if an when it happens.

Safety and security are important considerations when going about your day to day activities.  It begins with having a proper mindset and exhibiting confidence in your movements and actions.  You must maintain situational awareness which is knowing and anticipating what is going on around you.  If something feels wrong or dangerous then that is your bodies way of telling you to “watch out, there is danger here.”

Criminals look for people they perceive as being easy victims; so you must appear to be a hard target. Most criminals will avoid anyone they sense will put up a struggle or will fight back and cause them injury.  Here are some real world tips to help you stay safe and secure.

  • Avoid using out of the way ATM’s.
  • Stay away from poorly lit places.
  • Lock up your home properly.
  • Thoroughly scan parking lots before parking and keep your doors locked.
  • If someone is loitering consider them as up to no good and avoid them.
  • Do not take shortcuts between rows of parked cars and never walk next to a van.
  • Tunnels, alleys, bridges, and paths by rivers are all potential choke points which means only one way in and one way out, which makes it perfect for assailants to await ambush opportunities.
  • Don’t walk or jog through parks and wooded paths alone.
  • Stay out of known high crime areas.

What has happened to my America.  We have gone from a nation of self reliance to a nation of entitlement dependents.  Now I know not everyone is like this; but for those of you with an entitlement mentality, have some self respect and try achieving the following.

  • Get a good education.  It can be done; just apply yourself.
  • Get a good job.  Something you can be proud of.  It may take time to find one that satisfies you; as well as pays well, but keep looking until you find one that’s right for you.
  • Stop expecting other people to foot the bill for you.  A lifetime dependency on welfare should make you feel ashamed.  No self respecting person should feel good about themselves if they are on an entitlement program for their entire life.
  • Got a dream; then see it through.  Don’t give up on it just because you hit a roadblock or two.  Keep pushing forward until you achieve what you want.
  • There is a right and a wrong regardless of what the lamestream media tells you.  Try to have a good moral code and do the right thing even if no one is there watching.
  • Maintain a positive outlook and a confident manner as often as possible; and try to genuinely enjoy what life has to offer.
  • Lying, cheating and stealing is no way to go through life.
  • If you have strong convictions about something than stand your ground.
  • Believe in yourself and have faith in your abilities to succeed.

Citizen’s of America!  And those of you whom this post applies to already know who you are.  You’ve got to toughen up.  You need to stop being so offended by every little thing that someone says.  We have free speech in this country and the political correctness crowd needs to stop trying to restrict it.  I’m a firm believer in the mantra of if you have something to say then just say it.  That is and should continue to be the American way; unencumbered by the touchy, whiney, sissy, political correctness movement.

Everyone at some point in their lives has been called a deragotory name or insulted in some way.  Get over it!  That is no excuse for not achieving whatever it is you want to achieve or for blaming others for your failures.  Toughen up, fix whatever it is in your life that is holding you back and get on with living.  You are responsible for what you decide your life is going to be, so stop blaming everyone else because your feelings were hurt.

In survival situations there are key personality traits which can improve your overall chances for staying alive.  These traits are as follows.

  • Awareness – The ability to be aware of your surroundings at all times (situational awareness), including noticing danger signs, and being intuitive enough to sense impending danger; as well as interpreting another persons body language, determining what various noises are and what they mean.
  • Adaptability – The ability to change your plans as needed and to not fall apart when things don’t go your way.  You have to be able to roll with the changes and not get derailed if plans or situations change.
  • Courage – The ability to have a firm committment to survival and to do what is necessary in the face of danger to remain alive.  Courage allows you to master your fears and proceed ahead with the tasks at hand.
  • Patience – The ability to wait for the right moment before you take action.  Timing is everything.
  • Decisiveness – The ability to make correct decisions based on available facts.  Sitting around waiting for something to happen can often be detrimental to your survival chances.
  • Self Confidence – The ability to utilize your skills and abilities in a confident, positive manner regardless of the circumstances.
  • Mental Toughness – The ability to stay alert, and focused and to know that no matter what happens you will be victorious in any situation that arises.
