If society should breakdown or collapse, or a man made or natural disaster occurs, it is imperative to be prepared to handle these events as they transpire.  It is impossible to be absolutely prepared for every conceivable disaster and with that said; it is wise to prepare for as many of them as reasonably possible. The unknown can be scary and it can be frightning; but it can also be an opportunity to learn and develop survival skills which will see you through many potential disasters.

You don’t have to spend tons of money to be properly prepared.  Spend what you can reasonable afford on essential survival gear and invest your time and energy into learning and improving your needed survival skills. Have a workable survival plan and make sure that plan is adaptable to changes as situations warrant  Take care of your needs such as shelter, food, water, security, first aid and the other essential components of survival and you will be way ahead of the rest of the pack which didn’t bother to prepare at all.

In any survival situation you will find that some people will behave irrationally and may try to take advantage of chaotic situations.  Expect these people to commit criminal acts; so be prepared to defend yourself and your family.  All of these people will want something from you and many of them will do nothing to prepare; but will still feel they are owed something.  Just because a disaster has ocurred does not mean the attitude of these people will change.

Do not allow strangers to latch onto you.  They can prove to be very dangerous.  Your goal is to prepare to ensure your family’s survival; not the survival of every stranger that passes by.  You must be prepared to defend yourself and your family from those who would try and harm you and steal your food, water, guns, ammo and other survival supplies.  If strangers had the chance to prepare and chose not to, it is not your responsibility to now provide for them.

Your survival skills and your supplies will not be able to save everyone but they can help save the people who matter to you the most.  You must learn to trust your instincts and stay alert, avoid becoming predictable, be observant, familiarize yourself with your surroundings, learn to move quietly in all environments and avoid large groups of people.  In any survival situation your attitude is everything.  Be proficient with using your survival gear and with applying your survival skills and your chances of coming out alive increase dramatically.

With the escalation in crime, law enforcement becomes reactive rather than proactive.  People must assume a primary responsibility for their own safety and security.  It is important to realize that not everyone is a law abiding citizen.  There are predators out there who have no regard for your life, your family’s life or your possessions.  To them you are nothing more than an inconvenient obstacle to obtaining what they want.

You must be willing to defend yourself against anyone who would harm you or your family.  You must be mentally prepared to use your skills defensively.  You have a right and a responsibility to protect yourself against an attack.  Practice situational awareness and avoidance; know your escape routes; maintain physical boundries and use verbal diffusion when appropriate.  By staying situationally aware you remove the element of surprise from an enemy.

Most threats to home and family will come at close range.  Never turn your back to an adversary.  If an enemy is within range than so are you.  Maintain a survivors attitude by doing all that is necessary to survive; refusing to become a victim and never ever giving up.

Learn to visualize conflict and response.  This simulates experiences within your mind and experiences will build confidence.  Your mindset, your attitude, your tactics and your gear are all crucial elements to stop an attack.  Remember any weapon in the hands of a coward is useless so develop a mindset of confidence and bravery.
