If the world is ever plunged into a post apocalyptic nightmare due to an EMP strike, nuclear war, the ravages of disease, zombies, etc., etc., here are just a few post apocalyptic realities you might have to face.

  • Hot showers everyday would be a thing of the past.  Hygiene would become a major issue.
  • Pandemics not unlike the black plague would run rampant with no medical care available in most places.
  • Famine, dehydration and death would be widespread.
  • Economic collapse would be instantaneous with barter becoming the new method of trade.
  • Violence, looting, rape, robbery and murder would escalate to unprecedented levels.  Police and the military would likely be non-existent so you would be on your own.
  • Scrounging for clean water and edible food would become an everyday routine.
  • Weapons and ammunition location and usage would take a primary role in day to day living.
  • Finding shelter and staying cool in the summer and warm in the winter would mean the difference between life and death.

Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed to the fullest.  You should live the way you want, work at something you enjoy doing, reside where you want and get as much satisfaction from life as possible.  Along with that however, it is also prudent to be prepared for situations in life where things are contra to your best interests.  Disasters such as social unrest, war, famine, societal collapse, escalations in violent crime, etc., are just some of the things that in this day and age are of concern to many.  So, along with enjoying the good times, it is also important to prepare for the bad times.

The following are the things I consider most important for preparing for your own survival.

  • There is no such thing as having too much canned food or water set aside.  If disaster strikes, grocery stores may not be available to supplement your needs.  You must maintain a minimum of 3 months worth of food and water per person.
  • Yes, yes, yes you must have a sufficient amount of guns and ammunition and be well versed in their use.  You may have sufficient quantities of emergency supplies, but if others try and forcibly take them, you must be able to hold onto what you have.
  • People can and will panic during disasters so avoid large crowds and any areas subject to martial law and or rioting.  Use common sense and good judgement in deciding whom to trust.
  • Always keep  small amounts of cash on hand.  A disaster may render ATM’s and credit card systems useless.  If so, cash or barter may be the only ways to immediately conduct business.
  • Take responsibility for your own survival.  Ability without character is useless.  Remain moral and ethical during times of crisis.
  • As I constantly remind readers; stay situationally aware.  You must know what is going on around you so that dangerous people and situations cannot catch you off guard.

Disaster means different things to different people.  When disaster strikes such as civil unrest, war, famine, end of the world scenarios, etc., weapons for self defense will be an important necessity when it comes to your survival. 

Thugs, criminals, looters, etc., will be everywhere, usually working in groups and law enforcement depending on the nature of the disaster may be non existent.  Good luck finding a truly suitable weapon after a disaster has occurred.  You need to have your weapons and sufficient ammunition available to you before a disaster happens rather than hope you can locate some after.

There are many choices in weapons and even if you have a whole locker full of them, the reality is you cannot individually use them all at once.  Therefore it is necessary to have one primary type of each major weapon available to you and to make sure you are fully versed in using them properly. 

For firearms this will include loading, unloading, clearing malfunctions, cleaning, zeroing, aiming and  making sure your point of aim equals your point of impact.  For knives this will include sharpening and overall handling capabilities.

I have divided my weapons groups into 6 categories with my final selections based on reliability, functionality, durability and dependability.

  • Category 1:  Primary Shotgun = Mossberg 590A1 
  • Category 2: Primary Handgun = Smith & Wesson M&P 45 
  • Category 3: Primary Rifle out to 250 yards = DPMS AP4 Panther Carbine AR-15
  • Category 4: Primary Rifle out to 500 yards = Modified Yugo SKS
  • Category 5: Primary Rifle out to 1000 yards = FAL L1A1
  • Category 6: Primary Knife = Elite Forces Fixed Blade

Whatever your primary weapons choices are make sure you are proficient in their use.  Do not instigate or invite trouble, your weapons should be for defensive capabilities only.

One of my readers asked me to re-post this again so to oblige; here you go.  As I sat in my hot tub and relaxed in the warmth of the churning water; I managed to resolve my top 6 issues that I feel America faces.  So if I was the President; here are the 6 policies I would implement to get this great country back on track.

  1. Illegal Aliens – Round them up and deport them immediately.  They are here illegally which makes it a criminal offense.  Immediately implement border security with posted signs indicating that anyone trying to illegally cross the border will be fired upon and follow through with such action.
  2. Welfare – Eligible one time in your life only; not to exceed 12 months.  At that point no further welfare would be allowed for an individual.  The prospect of no more welfare funds coming in would highly motivate recipients to go out and get a job in order to survive.
  3. Prison System – 24 hour lockdown would be mandatory.  No early release.  Sentences to be served in full.  No weight rooms, no TV, no radio.  I would allow “elevator music” and perhaps a daily newspaper for reading.  Prison cells would be harsh, not comfortable resulting in those getting out of prison never wanting to return.
  4. War – Would no longer be fought in a politically correct fashion.  If we had to go to war, our military would be allowed to fight as viciously as possible in order to win.  No more touchy, feely ,methods of combat.  Wars are meant to be won and won quickly.
  5. Taxes – 3% flat tax would be implemented replacing the current individual income tax code at all income levels with no deductions.  Go out and earn as much as you can and pay your 3%.  NO deductions, no loopholes.  Straight 3% which can never be increased. 
  6. Concealed Carry – All law abiding citizens with valid pistol permits would be allowed and encouraged to carry concealed 24/7.  Criminals fear armed civilians and being armed with proper training goes a long way to keeping criminals at bay.  No malicious prosecutions would be allowed for armed citizens who shoot a thug in self defense.
