In order to avoid being carjacked, it is worthwhile to understand the methods that carjackers use.

  • Carjackers will bump your vehicle from behind and when you get out to exchange insurance information or inspect the damage they will steal your vehicle.
  • Carjackers will stage an accident with fake injuries and when you stop and get out to assist, your vehicle will be stolen.
  • Carjackers will follow you to your home or office and when you park they will pull up behind you so you can’t escape then steal your car and leave with both vehicles.
  • Carjackers will flash lights to get your attention then when you pull over your vehicle will be taken.
  • Carjackers will pose as police officers and when you pull over they will take your vehicle.

So how can you prepare yourself.  Try the following.  Stay away from dangerous areas. Be situationally aware of your surroundings, if something feels wrong then get out of there.  Keep your doors locked and your windows rolled up.  Maintain sufficient distance between vehicles so that you have an avenue of escape if a carjacking starts.  If you cannot see the rear tires of the vehicle in front of you then you are too close to that vehicle.  Your vehicle is thousands of pounds of raw power, use it effectively.  Make sure to keep a fully charged cellphone handy with your emergency phone numbers pre-stored.

Whatever apocalyptic scenario life throws your way, the main thing to remember is that you must survive.  In order to survive it is important to be aware of the following.

  • While fear can be a normal response, one must come to terms with that fear in order to survive.
  • In a defensive capacity you must be able to out-think and out-fight your opponent.
  • Choose your weapons wisely.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings no matter how innocent they may look.
  • Know the difference between cover and concealment.  IE:  cover may hide you and will stop a bullet; concealment may hide you but will not stop a bullet.
  • Always have a backup plan.
  • Act quickly and decisively but don’t overreact or act too soon.
  • There is no such thing as a fair fight or battle.  If your life is on the line you must win at any cost.  Make sure the unfair advantage is in your favor.

There are three kinds of people in the world today.  Those who are predators, those who are prey and those who refuse to be either.  In order to survive in today’s world or any type of post apocalyptic world of the future you must inwardly develop a warrior spirit; a mindset that says I refuse to be a victim.  Everyone must fight for something at some point in their lives and it is imperative that when these encounters take place, that you emerge victorious.

Nobody can tell you what your threat will look like; but when a threat attacks, you must be prepared physically, mentally and emotionally to defend yourself.  If something looks wrong or feels wrong then it is wrong.  Don’t ignore that inner sixth sense that warns you of impending danger.  Remember the rule of three M’s. 1 – Maximize your distance to the threat.  2 – Minimize yourself as a target.  3 – Muzzle always between you and the threat.

Survival is a combination of skills, mindset and gear.  Make sure you train regularly to keep your survival skills sharp.  Keep the proper positive, confident mindset and keep any gear which will keep you alive nearby.  Also make sure you are fully competent with each piece of gear.

In a survival situation there are no re-do’s.  You only get one chance to do it right and survive the first time.  Take the time to train and plan accordingly.  After all it’s your life; make sure you keep it by doing what is necessary to stay alive.

When it comes to disaster and survival situations, there are some common sense survival things that everyone should know.

  • Survival requires proper planning and good gear.
  • Food, water, guns, ammo and other necessary survival gear should be already stocked before a survival situation occurs.
  • Avoid dehydration and starvation at all costs.
  • Have a secure, well stocked, defendable location available.
  • Firearms and knives for defensive purposes are essential.
  • Avoid strange, dangerous areas and strange, dangerous people.
  • Crowds can quickly turn violent and can get you killed.
  • Light and noise discipline when appropriate is essential.
  • People will fight over scant resources.
  • Thugs will try and take what you have.
  • Martial law is always bad.
  • People who thought you were nuts for prepping when times were good will start showing up on  your doorstep when times are bad.
  • Never show weakness.
  • You must rely on yourself.
  • A welfare mentality will get you killed.
  • Trust your sixth sense.  If something seems wrong then it is wrong.
  • Bad guys with guns should be avoided.  If you cannot avoid them then you need to be better armed then they are.

Most attacks are perpetrated by one or more individuals using diversions.  Learn to respect your intuition and listen to it.  You need to defend your home like a castle.  Make sure your doors and windows are locked and that your garage doors are secure.  Never open your door to strangers as violent criminals often pose as someone they are not in order to gain access to your home.

Keep a fully charged cell phone and a firearm that you are proficient with handy.  Avoid walking in unlit areas and stay away from thick shrubbery near trails and paths.  When rounding blind corners stay at least 10 feet away from buildings and parked cars.  Never walk with headphones or earbuds on as it significantly diminishes your situational awareness.

Vary your times and routes as predators often rely on a potential victims consistent patterns.  Keep your car doors locked.  Always park in well lit areas and make sure you carefully scan any parking area before parking and again before exiting your car.  If you’re driving home and suspect you are being followed, verify by making a series of left and right turns around a given area.  If the vehicle is still behind you do not under any circumstances lead them to your home.

Avoid driving through bad parts of town.  When stopped at a traffic light or other delays, if you cannot see the tires of the vehicle in front of you then you are too close to that vehicle.  Leave enough space between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you so you can manuever your car if danger approaches.

An attacker is capable of anything so do not allow people to encroach into your personal space.  Never allow yourself to be cornered or boxed in.  Never allow yourself to be restrained or forcibly moved from one location to another.  Use visualization techniques to mentally practice what you would do in the event of an ambush, carjacking, attempted mugging, home invasion, etc.

Pleading for mercy may actually encourage an attacker to be more vicious.  Don’t second guess yourself.  If something feels wrong, listen to your instincts.
