Overlooked Survival Tips

The following are some often overlooked survival tips.

• The code for SOS by flashlight is 3 short flashes, 3 long flashes, 3 short flashes, pause then repeat.
• If you are storing both gasoline and diesel fuel, always store gasoline in red containers and diesel fuel in yellow containers. 
• Never use diesel fuel in a gasoline engine and never use gasoline in a diesel fuel engine.
• An emergency electric siphon pump can be made for about $20.00 with components available at most hardware stores. 
• The pages of a phone book can be used as a substitute for toilet paper when needed.
• Most canned foods are edible past their expiration dates although their nutritional and taste value may diminish.
• A gallon of water weighs about 8 pounds so factor that in when deciding how much water to carry.
• During a winter power outage, if your generator is not available, perishable foods can be temporarily stored in snowbanks.
• In a hostile situation there is a difference between guarding the gate and going out in search of the dragon.

Writing Update

I am pleased to report that the month of February had been a record setter for my books American Rebellion Book 1 of the Revolution, American Rebellion Book 2 of the Revolution and American Rebellion Book 3 of the Revolution all available at Amazon.com.  I am both grateful and humbled by the experience and thankful that so many of you have purchased and enjoyed the books.

Key Components To Survival When The SHTF

In order to survive a disaster, there are some key components that must be put into place.

• You must have the right gear and equipment.
• You must have the proper skills and training.
• You must have stamina and ingenuity.
• You must have confidence and a positive mindset.
• You must avoid having a defeatist, victim’s mentality.
• You must use good judgement and be resourceful.
• You must be flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances.
• You must realistically know your strengths and weaknesses.
• You must have a workable survival plan.
• You must have water, food, shelter, medicine, firearms, ammunition, knives and survival skills.
• You must maintain situational awareness.
• You must be careful whom you trust.
• You must have fortitude and perseverance.

Self Defense Commentary

In any defensive scenario; it is important to be aware of all that is around you as part of your 360 degree security plan.  You need to pay particular attention to anyone or anything which seems out of place.  Trust your instincts, do not ignore them as your first concern will be to stay alive.

You are your own first line of defense.  Based on circumstances the course of action you choose needs to be carried through without hesitation.  When faced with violence, which cannot be avoided, you must have the will to act with ferocity and severity in order to save your life.

It is irrational in this day and age that a law abiding citizen would not carry some form of a weapon.  To choose not to carry a weapon intentionally renders yourself partially defenseless.  Violence is escalating and many attacks occur in fringe areas such as deserted parking lots, alleyways, public bathrooms, stairwells, ATM kiosks, etc., where no immediate help will be available.

The most reliable and powerful weapon will do you no good if a situation demands immediate, decisive action for your survival and you fail to take action.  While it is best to avoid violence; if you are in a life threatening situation you may need to react violently to save your life.  Never escalate a situation which could turn violent until you consider where it might lead.

How Women Can Be Prepared When The SHTF Revisited

One of my readers, kindly asked me if I could revisit a specific article I wrote on how women can be prepared when the SHTF.  After giving the matter much thought, the following would be some recommendations that I can offer. 

• Make sure you have the proper mindset which means whatever happens; you must firmly believe that you will survive no matter what disaster confronts you.
• Control your fears.  This is essential.
• Practice regularly with whatever weapons you plan on using for self defensive.   Be thoroughly familiar with how your weapons function and practice frequently.  Firearms drills to practice should include safely loading, unloading, clearing malfunctions, acquiring your target and basic weapons maintenance.
• Rape will be an ever present threat when the SHTF so make sure you know some basic fighting techniques; and know which specific strike points on the human body will instantly incapacitate an attacker.  There are many strike points on an attackers body which can accomplish this.
• Be selective and careful whom you trust.  If you get a feeling that a person is untrustworthy or a danger to you, do not dismiss that feeling but instead pay attention to it and distance yourself accordingly.
• Stock up on survival basics; which means have at least a 3 month supply of food, water, medicine and make sure you have sufficient guns, ammo and gun related gear as well as shelter options available to you.  Don’t forget feminine products including menstrual pads and birth control.
• Have an attitude of confidence and project it openly.  Make yourself a hard target so anyone considering doing you harm will think twice about doing so.  Most criminals would rather try and take $20.00 from someone who won’t resist then take a $100.00 from someone who will offer strong resistance.
• Be mentally and physically fit to as much of a degree as possible.
• Have a prepacked bug out bag available with your survival essentials and make sure you can carry it for a considerable distance.  The bag will be useless if you can only carry it to the end of the driveway and then need to stop.
• Have some reference manuals which contain quick access to short and long term survival methods available to you.
• Know the difference between cover and concealment.  Cover allows you to hide and will stop a bullet where as concealment will allow you to hide but will not stop a bullet.
• Know when to attack and when not to.
• If you have to leave the area stay off the main roads.  You may travel parellel to them from areas which are away from prying eyes; but stay off of the main roads.
• Whenever possible it is better to stay put in a fortified location; such as a properly hardened home then to leave and set out on foot.
• Avoid traveling alone.

Another Look at Freedom and Government

Another reader asked me to re-address the subject of freedom and government so here you go.  There are many important things to know about freedom and government.  Below are some of what I consider to be the most important ones.

• Your elected representatives could care less about your opinions and interests unless of course you are a major financial donor.
• Governments will use fear as a weapon and by doing so, create real or imagined threats that they will claim only the government can solve.
• Never waive or give up your rights under any circumstances.
• Strangers are just that, strangers, so do not engage in talking to them about anything private or sensative.
• Never make an assumption that an expert is really an expert.
• If you have fundamental differences with certain people it is a waste of time to argue issues, politics or philosophies with them.
• Avoid the victim mentality.  Take responsibility for your decisions.
• Consider nothing as true until you have verified it.
• Freedom means never having to beg the government for your fundamental rights.
• It is okay not to respect a political office if you don’t respect the person in that office.
• Draw your line in the sand so that you know what you will and what you won’t tolerate.
