If you are a law abiding citizen why own a gun?  Aren’t the reasons obvious!  If not allow me to share some of them with you.

  • A gun is the best single tool for protecting your life and the lives of your loved ones if a violent attack is imminent.
  • Violent offenders stay away from homes where people are likely to be armed.
  • There are bad people in the world who cannot be talked out of trying to harm you.  But they will turn and run when confronted with a firearm.
  • Thugs see you not as a human being but as an obstacle to getting what they want.  They will think nothing of harming you and will harm you unless you have the means (firearms) to prevent this from ocurring.
  • Trouble does not make an appointment.  You must be prepared to defend your life and the lives of your family members.
  • Proficiency with firearms can save your life.
  • We are each individually responsible for our own safety and well being.

You must know your enemy.  The criminal is not your friend or your next door neighbor.  He does not hold the same moral values that you do and has no qualms about assaulting, raping, robbing or murdering you to achieve his objectives.  He understands violence because it is one of his predatory skills and survival tools.  No normal societal interactions will stop this individual.  Do not be a victim.  Become skilled and proficient with your weapons of choice as they one day may save your life.

Seleena, my faithful Alaskan malamute of 13 years crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday.  I know that someday in the future I will see her in heaven again.  The following by an unknown author is dedicated to her.  I love you Seleena and will miss you.  I will remember you with love every day.

When carrying concealed I find it is important to dress around the gun you plan on carrying.  Concealed means concealed so you need to balance keeping the weapon concealed with having it accessible if and when it might be needed.

During the months when the weather is cool and I wear heavier clothing such as long sweatshirts and jackets; I find it is very easy for me to carry a full size 45 semi automatic handgun or a full size 357 magnum revolver. When the weather turns warm I downsize to a compact 9mm.  That’s what works for me; you may find other options work better for you.

I can’t help but stress that a good quality holster and belt is essential.  I prefer leather but there are many fine kydex and nylon holster options available as well.  Put as much thought into your holster, belt and carry methods as you do into your firearm.  And above all stay safe.

Surviving in the real world comes down to one thing; having the ability to overcome.  You must develop a mindset of controlling your fears so they do not inhibit your actions.  Your mindset must allow you to not only perform to the best of your abilities but to also take responsibility for your actions.

You must know your enemy.  A thug is not your friend, your buddy or your next door neighbor.  They are a person or persons who have no regrets or sympathy when it comes to robbing, raping, murdering or performing any other anti social devestating action against you.  If they perceive you as weak or vulnerable they will attack.  You must be prepared to stop them immediately and be able to properly defend yourself.

The argument to submit to criminals and give them what they want is a false one.  What if the problem escalates?  What if they aren’t satisfied with what you give them?  You need to be prepared to stop a criminal’s aggression by whatever means necessary in defense of your life.  Remember there are no re-do’s if you are the victim of a violent rape or murder.

Be aware of your surroundings at all times.  Do not look like or act like a victim and do not have a victim’s mentality.  Pay attention to what your senses are telling you and react accordingly.  If you feel you are being observed with criminal intent you probably are.  Visualize how you would react to any given criminal scenario as repeated visualization helps with your defensive preparations.  Know the best strike points to quickly disable an attacker and choose and train accordingly with your self defense weapons.

Sometimes sheer pleasure and enjoyment comes out of re-discovering simplicity.  For more years then I care to remember my handguns and everything related to them has been a mantra of semi automatic, semi automatic and semi automatic.  My son and I were in a gun shop not long ago and we came across a used 357 Magnum Taurus Model 66 revolver which I promptly purchased.  Imagine my surprise at having so much fun using a revolver for target shooting.  In fact I’ve added it to my rotation for carry gun purposes.  Just goes to show sometimes simplicity in firearms still makes perfect sense.  Now here’s to hoping I get that Ruger GP 100 from Santa this year 🙂

It is a good idea to choose what you are going to rely on from a weapons perspective post apocalypse for self defense, property defense and other types of mobile defense.  The following are my humble suggestions.

  • A semi automatic handgun in either 9mm or 45ACP
  • A 357 magnum revolver
  • An AR-15
  • A 12 gauge pump action shotgun
  • A long range rifle either in .308 or 7mm Rem Mag
  • A sturdy fixed blade knife

My choices have factored in my particular needs.  Obviously your needs in terms of caliber/gauge might be different.  Choose wisely.

I was recently asked what one item I would miss the most in a post apocalyptic world.  Well here is my answer.  Now what one item would you miss the most?

In any disaster or apocalyptic scenario you will find that some people will behave irrationally and may try to take advantage of these chaotic and catastrophic situations.  Expect these people to commit criminal acts; so be prepared to defend yourself and your family.  All of these people will want something from you and many of them will do nothing to prepare; but will still feel they are owed something.  Just because a disaster has ocurred does not mean the attitude of these people will change.

Do not allow strangers to latch onto you.  They can prove to be very dangerous.  Your goal is to prepare to ensure your family’s survival; not the survival of every stranger that passes by.  You must be prepared to defend yourself and your family from those who would try and harm you and steal your food, water, guns, ammo, first aid kits, bug out bags, and other survival supplies.  If strangers had the chance to prepare and chose not to, it is not your responsibility to provide for them.

Your survival skills and your supplies will not be able to save everyone but they can help save the people who matter to you the most.  You must learn to trust your instincts and stay alert, avoid becoming predictable, be observant, familiarize yourself with your surroundings, learn to move quietly in all environments and avoid large groups of people.  In any survival situation your attitude is everything.  Pay attention to your gut instincts as they just might save your life.
